Ozone Therapy

Ozone therapy is ozone administered via gas or saline to kill micro-organisms to improve cellular function and promote healing of damaged tissues.

The rationale behind ozone therapy is the stimulation of movement of oxygen atoms from the bloodstream into body tissues to kill bacteria, viruses and toxic fungi. Defective tissue cells as in cancer are destroyed and healthy cells survive and multiply more rapidly. This creates a working immune system that functions.

Ozone is a form of oxygen, O3, that is produced when an electric spark or ultraviolet light passes through air. It is a gas that fights harmful foreign pathogens in the body. Administered properly ozone is safe, effective and it works.

Ozone History

Oxygen and ozone therapy have been in use since 1859 to disinfect operating in European hospitals and since 1860 in Germany to purify water supplies of large cities. First used by Dr. Joachim Hansler during WWI, he used it to treat gangrene in German soldiers. The procedure was done with putting the affected extremity inside an airtight bag filled with medical ozone. Ozone destroyed the harmful bacteria. In the 40’s and 50’s, Dr. Albert Wolff used ozone administered in the blood using major autohemotherapy. There are over 45,000 ozone practitioners worldwide since early 2000. Ozone is far better accepted in Europe, Russia and Cuba than the US even though the treatment has been proven. If you are not offered antibiotics or ozone for treatment of an infection in Germany the prescribing practitioner can be brought on medical negligence charges.

How is Ozone Administered?

Ozone can be administered in a number of ways.

Intramuscular injection with a mixture of oxygen and ozone injected directly into the muscles.

Rectal, bladder or baginal insufflation is amixture of oxygen and ozone introduced into the rectum and absorbed through the intestines or introduced into the vagina and absorbed into the uterus and uterine tubes. This is a good treatment for sexual transmitted infections that cause skin lesions.

MAH or major autohemolysis removes up to 250 mL of venous blood into an IV bag and mixes it with ozone gas, calcium chloride and heparin to prevent clotting and then re-infusing it into the patient. Ozone can be injected into Normal Saline 250 ml to 500 ml for I.V. therapy treatment. Ozonated water is when ozone is bubbled through water that is used to cleanse wound, burns, skin infections or to treat the mouth after dental surgery. Ozone inhalation is ozone bubbled through organic olive oil and then breathed in increasing oxygen to the tissues and brain.

Ozonated oils are sold at our clinic. Ozone is bubbled through organic olive oil that forms a cream to treat fungal infections, insect bites and skin lesions. Ozone bagging is when ozone and oxygen are pumped into an airtight bag and placed on an affected area to allow the damaged body tissues to absorb the mixture.


Ozone must be prescribed by a licensed and qualified practitioner. All ozone patients must do a new patient intake and see the doctor before receiving treatment. Patients are informed of the use, benefit and contraindications of ozone at their first visit. They must sign a consent form.

Patients with a history of pnemothorax, recent chest surgery, emphysema, recent middle ear surgery, uncontrolled high fevers, seizures, red blood cell disorders and acute upper respiratory infections will not be treated. The doctor has full clinical call to decide whether a patient is appropriate to receive treatment on the day of treatment.

Is Ozone Right for My Condition? Can it Help Me?

This will be discussed during your first visit with the doctor. There is a long list of conditions that ozone therapy has been beneficial for including: HIV, Hep C, Lyme and other tick-borne infections, Herpes, past Pneumonias, arthritis, macular degeneration, Lupus, MS, Hepatitis, Strep and Staph infections, allergies, candida, heart disease, skin infections and conditions, cancer, toxic mold exposures, multiple chemical sensititivies, autoimmune conditions, sexual transmitted infections and gastrointestinal infections and much more.

We can’t predict how many treatments you will need for your condition or your response, but most patients start with a series (12) of ozone therapy and see significant improvement within 1 to 3 series. It is advisable to be avilable for I.V. ozone 3 times per week in the beginning of your treatment and once your condition improves you can taper treatment down to 1 time per weekk as you enter a maintenance phase.

Ozone Therapy for the Bio-Chemically Minded

O3 is amolecule of three oxygen atoms. Ozone is a relatively unstable molecule. Ozone interacts and breaks down into the more stable O2 molecule. The breakdown is called dismutation.

How Do We Make Your O3?

Ozone is made by passing pure oxygen gas through our ozone generator. Medical ozone cannot be stored and used later. It must be used quickly after it is made.

How Does Ozone Work?

I.V. Ozone or other ozone applications enters your body and immediately interacts with double bonds found in amino acids and lipids to form peroxides. Peroxides create the biological effect of ozone therapy. Peroxides are diverse and are referred to as ozonides. Ozonides are magnetic dipolar molecules that initially involve ionic bonding. The magnetic quality of a dipolar molecule prevents free radical formation in aqueous environments at pH less than 8. Our pH in our bodies is much less than 8 so free radical formation does not occur. Ozone therapy produces ozonides not free radicals.

Ozonides in the literature are linked to increase oxygen utilization. They increase Acetyl Co A and ATP production by as much as 40%. This means more energy. Ozonides enhance red blood cell membranes distensibility. They increase cytokine production, anti-oxidant buffering capacity and oxy-hemoglobin dissocation.

Ozonides are anti-bacterial (selective for anaerobes), anti-fungal, and anti-viral with no resistance. They enhance the effects of chemotherapy and radiation. Ozonides activate Nrf2 our master regulator of cellular protection. Nrf2 increases our detoxification, regulates Phase II in the liver, enhances protein stability, reduces inflammation, protects against neurodengeneration, is an anti-tumor agent, promotes programmed cellular death and promotes longevity.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy and I.V. hydrogen peroxide create free radicals; ozone does not.

Short-chained peroxides penetrate cell membranes where they can eradicate bacteria, fungi, and viruses in the cell. The effect lasts from days to weeks continuing to work long after the treatment session.

When water is exposed to ozone, ozone is the only trapped molecule in the water. Oxygen is not a dipolar molecule so it cannot be contained in water. Ozonated water represents where ozone can be created in the absence of oxygen.

Reasons Why We Do Not Use Direct Intravenous Ozone Therapy:

1.) It is forbidden by law in Germany where ozone therapy began. It is resulted in a number of deaths and is not an acceptable practice.

2.) Precise dosing is impossible because you cannot measure a precise volume of blood being treated with that method.

3.) Direct IV ozone injections cause broncho-spasms which is contraindicated if you have a history of asthma or chronic lung disease. Autopsies of dogs treated with direct I.V. method showed that this method caused pulmonary embolisms caused by O2 in the gas mixture not the ozone.

4.) Pulmonary embolisms can be deadly to individuals with a congential opening between the left and right side of the heart called a patent foramen ovale. An estimated 30% of the adult population has this condition and if you do emolisms can go the brain and cause either stroke or death.

5.) Direct I.V. ozone injections injections do contain some O2 which can cause free radical injury that in turn causes marked fevers. I’ve seen this response passed off as a “healing reaction.” It is not a healing reaction; it is an injury.

6.) Direct I.V. ozone injections require weeks to build up to a large dose of ozone unlike ozonated saline or MAH. More of your time, more of your money.

7.) Direct I.V. ozone injections are painful. Patients can have chest pain, red flushes in the neck, rashes, coughing spams, and tachycardia or rapid heart beat.

8.) Phlebitis at the injection site is a common side effect but not with ozonated saline or MAH.

Ozone Utilization
